Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does environmentally friendly really mean?

Much like the fast fashion industry, ”cheap” mass produced cushions are often made using low quality synthetic materials and fill which is intended to have a low price tag, but not necessarily last for long.

Referred to by some as “throwaway cushions” they can lose their look and functionality – going flat and lumpy. This can happen within as little as a few months to a year (possibly longer pending quality, care and use). Cheaper cushions then end up in landfill where they can take decades (I have seen 200 years cited) to decompose.

2. Why are the inserts are more expensive?

Feather cushion inserts should last at least 2-3 years, and potentially up to 5-10 years if cared for well. While they may seem more expensive, considering their life-span they are a cost effective investment, with the ability to be re-fluffed & refreshed to close to their original shape and feel for many years.

3. How do I take care of my kooshan?

Just remove the cover and then…

INSERT:

  1. pre treat any stains
  2. place into the tub: doing 2 at a time can help balance your machine
  3. measure just 1-2 teaspoons of low-sudsing detergent -like for a wool wash (Too much makes the feathers clump).
  4. use a delicate cycle, cool to warm temp, and add an extra spin to help get rid of excess water and soap
  5. Dry thoroughly on the line (not on a humid day
  6. Finish in the dryer with a woolen dryer ball on a low heat for extra fluffiness. If drying fully in a dryer, you may need two cycles. Make sure there is no dampness left before re-covering.

COVER:

  1. Same process as the INSERT, but place in delegates bag and only using cool pending fabric type
  2. Air dry out of the sun.
